TOXIC NAIL POLISH-BEWARE
Okay, ladies are you ready for this? I know we're all guilty of life's little pleasure... wearing nail polish and going to the nail salon!
BUT...have you ever given it some serious thought... could it be harming your body? I never gave it much thought, until recently.
Toxic chemicals are very common in nail polish. Nail polish is probably one the world's most used beauty product in the world, and is dangerous for your health, and not just yours but for all around you when applying. (your children and pets especially.)
Let's take a look at the TOP 3 main ingredient found in most of our nail polishes.
FORMALDEHYDE is found in most nail polishes, also used in labs for experiments and used to preserve dead things.( Dead things!!) There are strict warnings for this product, avoid inhalation and skin contact.
TOLUENE is found in gasoline, It's also known to cause reproductive harm, nervous system problems and dizziness.
DIBUTYL PHTHALATE (DBT) is known to cause reproductive problems, especially in boys. This chemical is classified at the highest level of danger. This chemical is banned in Europe.
What do you think of that?
IF Your Going to Wear Toxic Nail Polish...
Okay, so some of you won't care about what nail polish you wear, but hopefully many, will. If you must please help yourself , by just doing this...
A safe way to apply nail polish is in a well ventilated area. (free of children and pets. (also your loved ones, second-hand fumes is just as dangerous as second-hand smoke, possibly even worse! If it's a nice day do it outside! I do it outside all summer long!
Do not constantly change polish colors frequently in one week. Try not using toxic nail polish remover more than twice in one month. This product is just as bad as nail polish itself.
If your using these toxic nail polishes, do so with CAUTION.
Maybe a better route would be to switch you nail polish brands. I'm planning switching mine! Actually after going through my nail polish purse (yes I actually have a handbag that I store all my nail accessories and polishes! My purse caddy...lol)but after looking through my purse-caddy I have a few of these non-toxic nail polishes, good to know I was already being drawn to them.
I made a list of non-toxic nail polishes. See below.
Scotch Natural- most favourite brand
Butter
Julep
RGB
Sheswai
Honeybee Garden- great for children, removes with rubbing alcohol
Piggy Paint-great for children
No-Miss
Suncoat-peels off so easily you don't even need polish remover
Zoya
Aquarella-a little pricy, but stayed on longer
Nubar
Jin Soon
Priti
Hopscotch Kids-kids version of Scotch
Kure
DO your own research when looking to purchase non-toxic nail polish, to see what's good for you, check out your local drug stores, or order online.
Here are some pics of the non-toxic brands...
Some of these nail polishes may not last as long as getting your nails professionally done, but just think you will have healthier nails and can change nail color more often. They do have non-toxic nail salons, but they aren't as many around though.
They also carry a non-toxic polish remover in many brands as well. Nail polish remover is just as bad as the nail polish itself.
And beware ladies who go to the salon to get there nails done. (I'm guilty of this as well) these nail salons don't normally carry non-toxic nail polish.(if they do, give it a try! )And you shouldn't even be in there inhaling all that poison. Why do you think they wear masks?
IS SHELLAC/GEL-POLISH BAD FOR YOUR NAILS
Everyone wants that glossy look that lasts up to two weeks, super strong nail polish. But what is it really doing to your nails? It's thinning your nails, nail discoloration, brittle dry nails, even painful nail beds.
Also by not looking at your natural nail for weeks, isn't good. You could be missing signs of nail infections and possible nail tumors. Plus the thick coat of armoured polish and protector is blocking your nail from getting oxygen. Also as your nail begins to grow "gel-die-hards" often begin to peel the nail off, causing it to lift. If it lifts, water can get in and harbour bacteria and possibly fungus. Once you begin to pick as those nails, it's really hard not to want to peel some polish off, in doing this you will be pulling off layers of your nail with it.
It's also not yet known if the UV light causes cancer, but why even risk it, stay away.
Another thing you can do is let our favourite nail polish brands know how we feel about putting chemicals that are dangerous on our nails. Ask if they can make a non-toxic version or you won't be purchasing their products anymore. Because your nail polish is seriously doing harm to you... and you may not even know it.
In this day and age were all about being more health cautious, and watch what were putting into our bodies, this also goes for further than just nail polish, it's also other beauty products and skin care lotions etc. It all sinks into your skin and into your blood stream.
TIME TO THINK ABOUT USING ALL NATURAL PRODUCTS
